Do I need to buy books before my first piano lesson?

Nope! You don’t need to go shopping before your first day. We provide your very first set of books right at the studio for a one-time $40 materials fee. After that, we’ll let you know exactly which books to grab as you progress, so you never have to guess which version or level to buy.

Playing Piano

Starting a new hobby can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to "gear." We try to make your first week as stress-free as possible by handling the heavy lifting for you. Here is how the book process works:

1. The "Welcome Kit"

The $40 materials fee at your first lesson covers the core books you need to get moving. This usually includes:

  • A Method Book: The "map" for your lessons.

  • A Theory/Technique Book: The "workout" for your brain and fingers.

  • A Solo Book: The fun songs you’ll want to show off to friends!

2. Why we provide the first set

There are thousands of piano books out there, and many of them have very similar titles but totally different levels. By providing the first set, we ensure you have the exact right edition for our curriculum from day one. You won't have to worry about accidentally buying the "Level 1" book when you actually needed "Level 1-B."

3. Future Purchases

As you (or your child) master each level, I will give you a "heads up" before you need the next set.

  • No Guesswork: I’ll provide the exact title, author, and often a direct link to make ordering easy.

  • Budget Friendly: On average, students only need to refresh their books once or twice a year, usually costing between $20 and $40.

4. A Pro Tip for Books

Once you have your books, we recommend getting a dedicated music bag. Keeping your books, a pencil, and a notebook all in one place makes it much easier to grab everything and head to the studio without that "where is my music?" panic right before class!

The Bottom Line: Just bring yourself and your enthusiasm! We’ll make sure you have everything you need to start playing your very first song by the time you leave your first session.
